WHAT IS IT?

The Family Medicine Professional Competency (FMProC) Test is a 75-minutes online situational judgement test that is required by all candidates (IMGs & CMGs) applying to Family Medicine residency programs in Canada. Through the questions, the FMProC assesses professional integrity, adaptability, team collaboration, and empathy/compassion of its candidates, which are the some of the key attributes of a Family Physician.

WHY DO YOU HAVE TO CHALLENGE IT?

The FMProC is meant to assess “non-academic” skills and attributes of future family physicians outside of reference letters and MSPRs, which have little evidence as selection tools.

WHAT DOES THE TEST LOOK LIKE?

The test is comprised of 25-30 scenarios in which you will be asked to rate or rank the desirability of a series of options in response to the scenario. As such, there are two types of question formats included in the FMProC: Rating and Ranking.
Rating: You will be asked to independently rate each of the 4-8 response options on a 5-point scale (e.g., between ‘very desirable’ and ‘very undesirable’), in responding to the situation.
Your answers are marked by comparing your responses to a standard set by a panel of Subject Matter Experts. The closer your response is to the model response, the more marks you are awarded.

Ranking: You will be asked to rank the 5 response options presented in order of their desirability in response to the situation (from ‘most desirable’ to ‘least desirable’).
Your answers are marked by comparing your responses to a standard set by the expert panel. The closer your response is to the model response, the more marks you are awarded.

WHAT IS COVERED IN THE WORKSHOP?

Staying true to our DNA, our Workshop for the FMPRoC is an all-day Interactive small-group learning experience. Driving a car is not enough, if you don't know how to read and follow the road signs or rules. As such, we will spend time dissecting the essence of what a Situational Judgement Test is before spending the day practicing numerous cases. Registrants will also be provided with additional cases/scenarios to practice with after this 1-Day workshop.

WHAT MATERIALS ARE PROVIDED?

All preparation materials will be provided via email as soft copies 24-48 Hr before the start of the workshop.
